Biography: Alexander Neilson Bell moved with his family, including the six living childern out of eight to Anson Co. North Carolina. He settled near Monroe, North Carolina. Through his efforts a small Post Office was built in the area and he was appointed Post Master. It was somewhere near Olive Branch Road and not far from the Libery Chapel, across the road from John McCollum's home on Olive Branch Road.

In the fall of 1838, Alexander Neilson Bell left his job with the Post Office, packed up his family, including his wife and twelve children and started west. They came across Georgia, possibly through Talbotton, Georgia where they met the Peel's. Part of the family must have gone on to Alabama with them. Peola I Stuart was told that five families came into Alabama and settled, at least for a time, in Macon Co., Alabama. He bought a large farm and did very well. A year or two before his death, he sold his farm and went to Choctaw Co., Alabama, so all of the family could be nearere and he went into business with his son who had a store, but wanted to grow. He was building his home. One night he was standing on the porch, leaning on a post, he slipped and fell. He died two days later.

According to the 1840 Census Alexander and his son William Howard Bell where neighbors in Macon Co., Alabama. There are 5 boys and 3 girls living at home. They have 18 male slaves and 14 female slaves. The A. H. Howard family is living nearby.

Alexander married 1 Sarah Howard daughter of William Howard and Elizabeth Blythe on 17 Jul 1806 in Charleston,, South Carolina. Sarah was born 2 on 31 Jul 1787 in Meccklenburg Co., South Carolina. Birth: The headstone says "Emily Bell Zitterow 1828-1915" which conflicts with the dates provided by Peola Stuart but the 1828 seems consistant with her appeance in the Census records.
